Introducing the OBI ESG & Employment Guidelines

Over the past 3 years the OBI Board Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) committee has been working to develop an ESG policy which includes Employment Guidelines for the network. This session will provide an orientation to the policy and how it might inform Schools’ plans, as well as the Employment Guidelines and how they should be used.

Nature Bound after 3 years: Reflections and Looking Ahead

The OB Nature Bound work was completed in 2023. After three years of implementation, this session will consider case studies of how it has been implemented and the challenges of making it work. This will also be an opportunity to provide feedback so that we can consider how to increase the impact of Nature Bound across the network.

CyberSecurity - How Prepared Are We Really?

Do we fall into the trap of assuming that “it would never happen to us?”. In recent years several Outward Bound Schools have been victims of cyber-attacks which highlights the need for everyone to assess the risk and how to respond. This session will consider the level of risk and some examples of the essential measures to mitigate that risk. The session will conclude with consideration of how OBI can best support Schools in developing their response.

Global Impact Research: Insights, Evidence, and the Road Ahead

The OBOS tool has produced (probably!) the largest global dataset in the outdoor sector and has seeded a range of research projects as a result. This session will delve into the findings of these research projects and consider how Schools can use these research findings to amplify their message and improve their processes. The session will also consider future research priorities and how Schools can engage and benefit.

Peacebuilding – opportunities for all

Outward Bound Centre for Peacebuilding has developed a training partnership model that is working with independent schools, universities, NGOs and fellow OB schools. It can fit with all Schools. This session will help participants understand how we connect Peace Education and Outward Board, and how it can benefit program staff, links to Nature Bound, the Character Toolbox, and even potential fundraising benefits. Participants will gain an awareness of how peacebuilding as a focus can be a complementary element that can be applied in the work of their schools and how it might open opportunities for new communities and relationships.

This session will showcase successful marketing campaigns from across the network, highlighting effective strategies, lessons learned, and opportunities for improvement. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their own marketing approaches, exchange ideas with peers, and explore how we can strengthen the Outward Bound brand together. The session will also consider the potential for coordinated global marketing initiatives that leverage the power and credibility of our international network.

This is an opportunity for School leadership members to participate in work that will help us communicate what we do more effectively.
Working with Dr. Theresa Melton from Clemson University, a member of the OBI Research Advisory Committee, participants will explore the newly developed Outward Bound Theory of Change (ToC). This session provides an opportunity to respond to the framework through discussion and critical reflection, ensuring the final version resonates with the collective understanding and experience of the global OB network. Participants will consider how the ToC aligns with their own School’s practice and explore how it can be used to communicate the value and impact of Outward Bound more clearly to participants, partners, funders and other stakeholders.
